During this Model Movement Workshop, students will learn the physical aspects of what each emotion looks like on the body to help create a wider range of movement in front of the camera. We will teach about the Chicago modeling industry and what to expect on a commercial (and sometimes editorial) set. This class will be an opportunity to practice posing through a new lens and receive guidance and critique along the way. The goal is to help build a new rolodex of poses and inspiration, so the student never runs out of poses while on set (how to build a flow). You’ll leave with new skills, a new network, and 2-5+ portfolio ready images showing off your newly embodied movement during our portrait session at the end of the class.
Who is this for:
This is for unsigned and signed models alike who are looking to gain new skills and perspectives in regards to posing, movement, and on-set experience. This is perfect for someone who is looking to find agency representation or is newly signed, someone who has prior experience modeling and would like to explore movement through a new lens, or even someone who feels blocked at the moment and needs a refresh to find new inspiration. All ages, bodies, and genders welcomed!
Schedule:
10 - 11:15am | Check-In
Sign-in with Anna or Xenia and get settled in the space
11:15-11:30am | Introductions & Prompt
Gather, introduce ourselves, and share our goals for the day
11:30-12pm | Warm-Up with Xenia
Body scan and improvisational tasks to warm up the body
12 - 1pm | Movement Play: Emotion Wheel with Xenia
Using sensation, imagery, and task based movement we will work through how to play with various emotions to apply them on set. We will work dynamically NOT statically.
1 - 1:30pm | Chat with Anna
Anna shares insight on how she directs posing with models on set, how to find your inspiration, and anecdotes of the Chicago fashion industry
1:30 - 2pm | Photos with Anna + Small Group Time
Journal, connect with other participants, and work with Anna & Xenia in front of camera to use new skills. Each model will be offered styling services to provide garment options for your time showcasing your poses.
