Music and the Brain: An Interdisciplinary Conversation
Join us for an interdiscplinary conversation, with a keynote speech by Dr. Psyche Loui, a leading researcher in psychology and neuroscience from Northeastern University. Dr. Loui researches networks of brain structure and function that enable musical processes, such as auditory and multisensory perception, learning and memory of sound structure, sound production, and the human aesthetic and emotional response to sensory stimuli.
Additionally, second on our speaker list is Dr. Tara Gaetner, neuroscientist, psychiatrist-in-training, and music educator! She will be sharing her PhD findings on the physiological effects of music listening in youth and how we can hope to harness music to help people with anxiety and depression.
The event will also feature music performances and is open to students, faculty, and anyone interested in the intersection of music, psychology, and neuroscience. Whether you're new to music cognition or already deep in the field, this afternoon of interdiscplinary conversation will offer valuable insights into how musical experiences shape — and are shaped by — the brain.
Refreshments will be provided!
