Karisma Hike Club: Sant Martí de Centelles to Turó de Tagamanent
Led by Aodhán, our Hike Club leader, we're heading to Sant Martí de Centelles, trekking up to the iconic Turó de Tagamanent and back through the stunning Pla de la Calma.
Time: 9:15 a.m.
From Arc de Triomf, it’s approximately a 1-hour journey by train to Sant Martí de Centelles, the starting point of our hike.
Bring light pack, snack food or tupper (if you don’t want restaurant snacks), warm layer, shoes with decent grip (trail shoes or light boots).
Starting Point: Sant Martí de Centelles
Upon arriving at Sant Martí de Centelles, we’ll embark on a beautiful loop hike through the Montseny Natural Park. The day promises to be refreshing, with stunning autumn colors in October. After a week of screen time, the hike offers a good workout with an 800-meter vertical ascent.
Ascent: Forested Trail to Turó de Tagamanent
The trail ascends gradually through lush, forested paths, with oak, pine, and beech trees surrounding us. The vibrant colors of the season—golden yellows, reds, and oranges—add to the scenic beauty as we climb steadily toward the summit.
The Turó de Tagamanent summit stands at 1,056 meters and rewards us with breathtaking panoramic views of the Montseny mountain range. The cool October air, coupled with the forest’s vivid colors, makes the climb all the more worthwhile. The historic Sant Martí Church at the summit adds an interesting cultural touch to the journey.
Refreshment Stop: Restaurant El Bellver
On the way down, we’ll make a well-deserved stop at Restaurant El Bellver, known for its cozy porch and delicious local offerings. This will be the perfect spot for a rest and refreshments, whether you’re craving tapas, sandwiches, or an artisan ale. The views from the restaurant’s porch are spectacular, making it a great place to enjoy a picnic-style meal outdoors.
Descent: Pla de la Calma
After our stop at El Bellver, we’ll continue the hike along Pla de la Calma, a vast and serene plateau with gently rolling terrain. This section of the hike provides a break from the more intense ascent, with open views and a calming ambiance.
The wide-open spaces of Pla de la Calma feel peaceful and allow for a relaxed pace as we make our way through the natural landscape. The vegetation here contrasts beautifully with the earlier forested areas, and the autumn colors continue to be a highlight.
Return to Sant Martí de Centelles
The trail will eventually descend back toward Sant Martí de Centelles, offering more glimpses of the colorful October foliage. The hike totals approximately 16 kilometers in distance and provides a satisfying workout that combines both steep climbs and more relaxed walking.
Closing the Day
We’ll finish our hike back at Sant Martí de Centelles and take the train back to Barcelona. We’ll close the day where it began, at Arc de Triomf, around the late afternoon or early evening, depending on the group’s pace.
This loop offers a perfect balance of challenge, scenic beauty, and relaxation, making it an ideal way to spend a day outdoors after a busy week. The fresh air, vibrant autumn colors, and rewarding views are sure to leave everyone feeling refreshed!
