MASAMI: paysages intérieurs
curated by Agathe Ferrand Maeda
at Impact HUB Tokyo, Meguro (Japan)

MASAMI is a graduate of JOSHIBI University of Art and Design in Japan and École Supérieure d’Art de La Réunion. Her work has been shaped and influenced by Japanese, Réunionese, and other cultures she has experienced. In her research, she explores the "LIFE FORCE" through light, energy, and its freedom, delving into its intrinsic power. She creates a dialogue with the viewer, questioning their own relationship with the Earth and inviting humanity to reflect on its existence and ways of living in alignment with nature.

"How do we coexist on our planet—body, soul, and Earth—as well as within the universe?"

MASAMI is also an artist passionate about exploring connections between world cultures, whether Japanese, African, or diasporic. Her artistic practice focuses on the interaction between these cultural traditions and their contemporary expressions, which she weaves together in her work.

She materializes this search through the use of natural and recycled materials, whether it’s fabric, ceramic or even electric cables. Playing with these elements while drawing inspiration from the territories she is in, letting her relationship with their landscapes take form. Since childhood, she has perceived the world through its light and feeling its vibrations. Her creative process is cadenced by the cyclical rhythm of nature, following its flows of energy and spiritual practices.

For MASAMI, art forms a bridge between the tangible and the intangible, releasing luminous energy to the world and awakening a shared sensitivity to our environment.

Through her art and commitment to cultural preservation, she transcends geographical and cultural borders, highlighting the richness of cultural diversity and celebrating the power of art as a vehicle for connection and universal understanding.
