Red [Renaissance] by MYR – Special Screening at Papoila Bar Lisbon
🎭 Join us on 30 April at Papoila Bar Lisbon for the screening of Red [Renaissance] — a remarkable live-filmed theatrical production shot at Kyiv’s October Palace (Zhovtnevy).
This is not just a film — it’s a filmed theatrical performance of a musical specifically designed for the big screen. Red [Renaissance] offers a captivating fusion of live performance and cinematic technique, bringing you closer to the story than ever before.
With dynamic cinematography — including close-ups, shifting angles, and a sharp eye for detail — the film deepens the emotional impact of the performance, creating a fresh, immersive experience. The editing preserves the authenticity of the stage production while introducing new rhythms that elevate every scene.
On screen, the voices of early 20th-century Ukrainian cultural visionaries come alive: Khvylovy, Sosiura, Ostap Vyshnia, Les Kurbas, Mykhailo Semenko, and Pavlo Tychyna. Red [Renaissance] tells the powerful story of these artists who believed in the future of Ukrainian culture — at the cost of their own lives.
As the first historical musical of its kind in Ukraine, this performance sheds light on the lives and legacy of writers who shaped a nation, while honoring their resistance to Soviet repression. The story unfolds around the tragic events at the “Word” House in Kharkiv, where hundreds of Ukrainian cultural leaders were executed by Soviet authorities.
By bringing this production to the screen, the MYR team preserves and digitizes an essential piece of Ukrainian cultural heritage for the world to witness. The film is in Ukrainian with English subtitles.
