Wet Felting Workshop
We're so thrilled to have textile artist, Zelda Mazor-Freedman, in the studio for our very first wet felting workshop!
You'll learn how to properly lay out and wet wool, as well as different surface design techniques such as drawing with wool, collaging with fabric scraps and the cracked mud technique— creating your own 8.5x11in figurative felt painting to display in your home.
As with all RecCreate events, you can expect to go on this journey with a room full of lovely strangers. We’ll offer opportunities for connection throughout our time— encouraging the spirit of the collective. It is (so) much more fun to get to create together.
If you’re anything like us and want to live a life filled to the brim with creativity— we have space for you at our long, communal (naturally, handmade in brooklyn:) art/craft table.
See you there!!
About the artist
Zelda Mazor-Freedman is an artist and teacher living in Brooklyn. She make sculptures using a variety of textile techniques and is an impassioned felter. Felting has been part of her practice for 9 years and it is central to her work. Since 2019, she has sought to both participate in, and create, educational spaces- hosting felting workshops with ArtShack Brooklyn, Godspeed Studios, the Living Gallery, and the Red Hook Public Library. She's worked with children for many years, as a classroom teacher and as an after-school art teacher. This has deeply influenced her practice, as she aims to work in the tradition of other educators-artists like Cortia Kent and Rhoda Kellog. She shows her work with State of Wonder and Soft Serve Gallery. She is currently creating a series of large-scale felted paintings, exploring themes of childhood and community.
What can I expect from a workshop at RecCreate?
Workshops at RecCreate are like the art school education your parents never let you get, at a tiny fraction of the price led by NYC’s most talented creatives + educators. We make sure you leave with something very special along with the know-how to continue exploring at home. Our emphasis is on education, creative exploration and tool proficiency
