BERLIN BERLIN - TAKEOVER#2
Coming from a long tradition of squatting (“besetzen”) or taking over spaces during the 80s and 90s, TAKEOVER is an artist-led initiative in the Bright Moments Gallery in Berlin.
TAKEOVER #2, titled “BERLIN BERLIN”, sees artists River Davis and YUYU, along with curator Alex Aravantinos and the support of the artists Anna Lucia & Julian Hespenheide, revitalising the dormant Bright Moments Berlin Gallery to present two thought-provoking AI collection reflecting on the city’s decades-long activity regarding political freedoms and expressions of the self. The two experimental post-photography collections derive from the artist’s previous bodies of work and establish a dialogue exploring Berlin's recent history as a global capital for cultural expression and underground experiences.
The exhibition will coincide with the international conference Generative Art Summit: From Camera to Artificial Intelligence 1952-2024 hosted by the Foundation Herbert W. Franke (3-6 July 2024).
River Davis is an American multimedia artist known for exploring post-internet culture’s impact on social consciousness. He has exhibited in Los Angeles, New York, Berlin, Hungary, Portugal, and Hong Kong and is the youngest contributor to Venet Foundation’s annual exhibition. River’s international presence is a testament to his innovative approach to systemic art, by combining digital and physical mediums.
YuLiang Liu, also known as YUYU, is a Taiwanese-born and Berlin-based visual artist exploring the marginalized narratives of queer and othered bodies in traditional art history. YuYu’s work has been featured in numerous local and international group shows and solo exhibitions at prestigious global art centers such as Berlin, Paris, and Seoul. One of his photographs belongs to the permanent collection of the Tom of Finland Foundation, while in 2023 a work of his was presented at a prominent art auction hosted by Sotheby’s Hong Kong.
