This event will be open to all and offer a unique opportunity to gain insights into the journeys of building a biotech startup at the University of Manchester. Through discussions with top founders and networking opportunities, we will explore the challenges and opportunities of biotech venture creation in Manchester and the wider UK ecosystem.
Speakers for Fireside Chats:
Prof. Sam Butterworth (Professor of Medicinal Chemistry & Founder, Apini) – Apini is a University of Manchester spin-out advancing small molecule therapies for inflammatory diseases. Founded by Professor Sam Butterworth, Apini is the first programme launched through Slingshot Therapeutics, backed by a £12.5M investment from Syncona. Sam is a Professor of Medicinal Chemistry with extensive experience in structure-based drug design and is an inventor of Tagrisso, a globally used treatment for EGFR-mutant lung cancer.
Dr. Mohammad El Hajj (Co-Founder and CEO, Bright Biotech) – Bright Biotech is revolutionising growth factor production for the cultured meat sector. Co-founded with his PhD supervisor, Dr Anil Day, Bright Biotech partners with cellular agriculture and tissue engineering innovators to deliver high-volume, animal-free growth factors with no compromises, powered by its unique chloroplast expression platform.
Arrivals at 5.30 pm with talks starting from 5.45 pm, followed by food, drinks, and networking with fellow innovators, researchers, investors and other in the ecosystem. Last entry is at 7pm.
